Optimus Prime had become the leader of the Autobots when the first wars had begun on his home planet of Cybertron. His origins have been obscured between many different story lines. The animated Transformers series from the 1980s portrayed him as a humble dock worker named Orion Pax who became Optimus Prime when the Cybertronian Wars had begun. In the Marvel Comics version he was a highly skilled shooter and combatant who took on the role of a leader to stop the advancing Decepticons. He was also portrayed as a librarian named Optronix by Dreamwave Productions and when he had to step up to take leadership of the Autobots he became known as Optimus Prime.
Regardless of how Optimus Prime became the leader of the Autobots he is heroic figure who has great fighting skill and the ability to transform into a semi-truck. His colors are red and blue and he fights with a large blaster or a large ax that can protrude from his right hand. The Transformers made their way to Hollywood in 1986 for the cartoon film titled: The Transformers. Optimus Prime and the rest of the Tranformers were brought back to the big screen in 2007 and he has starred in all three movie productions that ended with the 2011 film Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Producers and writers used the same personality and appearance that Optimus Prime had during the animated series for the pictures. The only difference is that they brought him to life using advanced CGI animation and computer rendering.
The Transformers first debuted in 1984 and they became an overnight success especially in the area of toy sales. Optimus Prime’s character was sold as a transformable semi-truck that had a cab which converted into an Autobots base. Prime has always been the champion of the Autobots who leads by example and who displays noble characteristics. Optimus Prime is probably the most well known and respected leaders of all the Autobot forces.
